Las Vegas Aces Set Team Record For Points in a Game

Welcome to the Basketball Hangover. I write about what’s happening in the WNBA daily as we try to heal from this pandemic.

The Las Vegas Aces and Seattle Storm are doing their best to keep up with each other. They both had games on Sunday.

What’s probably more impressive is what the Aces did.

It was still a game after the third; the Aces led by 9 in what was a high-scoring affair. But then Dearica Hamby and Kelsey Plum steered a 13-4 run at the start of the fourth and the gap got wider as the game came to a close. The Aces would win by 23 and score a franchise-record 118 points.

Kelsey Plum had 23 points off the bench to lead 6 ladies in double figures. Courtney Williams led the Dream with 19 points.

Of course, what was curious was Chennedy Carter‘s exit. She played under 6 minutes and never returned to the game. We’ll see what happens and positive me hopes that it’s an isolated incident. But it feels like it could be more than that.

Meanwhile, the Aces go to a league-leading 14-4 record while the Dream fall to 6-11.

But like I said, the Seattle Storm are doing their best to keep up.

Bullet Passes

The Storm went on a 30-8 run that spanned the third and the fourth periods to put away the L.A. Sparks. No Jewell Loyd for the Storm but they got more than enough production from Epiphanny Prince (18 points) and Ezi Magbegor20 points).

Sue Bird is now #6 in the all-time career scoring list.

She passed Katie Smith on the ladder. Next on the list is Cappie Pondexter but since she’s 347 points ahead of Sue, don’t think Pondexter will lose that place this season. If Sue plays next season then maybe but I don’t want to think about that right now.

Karlie (Sparks) and Katie Lou Samuelson (Storm) played each other for the first time ever. That’s a nice little tidbit right there. Of course, we know Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike (now teammates) have played each other several times.

Beat the buzzer, Jackie Young.

Cool under the pressure. Gotta love it.

Everyone, please take care of yourselves during this pandemic. And that goes for everyone involved with the WNBA as well.
