Chicago Sky Extend Winning Streak to 5 Games

Welcome to the Basketball Hangover. I write about what’s happening in the WNBA daily as we try to heal from this pandemic.

The Chicago Sky extended their winning streak to 5 games and beat the Connecticut Sun in back-to-back games. Courtney Vandersloot had a double-double for the third game in a row with 18 points and 11 assists.

It didn’t start out so great for the Sky as the Sun led by 9 after the first quarter. But the Sky came back with a 14-2 run. We saw Allie Quigley make three consecutive shots. In NBA Jam terms, she was ON FIRE.

Still, the Sun kept it close. Brionna Jones had a career-best 22 points to make up for the absence of Jonquel Jones. Her lay-up tied it at 76 under the four-minute mark.

Then Chicago went on a huge run. Five different players had a hand in that backbreaking 13-0 run late. That was more than enough to put away the Sun, who have now lost three straight games.

Meanwhile, that 7-game skid by the Sky seems like a distant memory now as they have now won 5 straight games. They’re back at .500 (7-7) and looking more like the team that is a championship contender than the bottom-dweller that they were a few weeks ago.

As for Connecticut, at least, Jonquel Jones is due back VERY VERY SOON.

Bullet Passes

Tina Charles had another 30-point game and she even grabbed 15 boards to go along with those points. Meanwhile, Theresa Plaisance followed her career-best 25-point game with 16 points and 12 boards. It’s her fourth straight game with double digits in scoring. Plaisance is in her 8th season and a career 4.4 PPG average.

Meanwhile, Marina Mabrey had a career-high 28 points in a blowout win over the Lynx. That’s quite the turnaround from her previous game against them, which she scored NO points.

I still advocate for Mabrey to win Most Improved Player. Also, she scored those 28 points in under 18 minutes.

The Lynx lost but this Rachel Banham fling is a winner.

What a shot by Rayban!
