Seattle Storm Stay On Top of the Standings

Welcome to the Basketball Hangover. I write about what’s happening in the WNBA daily as we try to heal from this pandemic.

The Seattle Storm continue to have the best record in the league as they defeated the Atlanta Dream again.

Slowly, but surely, the Storm started to pull away at the end of the first half. A three-point play by Breanna Stewart followed by a Jordin Canada lay-up put the Storm up by 10 at halftime. After that, the Dream didn’t get closer than 6 points as the Storm never felt threatened the rest of the way.

Jewell Loyd led the team with 20 points while Stewie scored 18 and tied a season-high with 13 boards. Courtney Williams had 19 points and 11 boards for Atlanta but it wasn’t nearly enough for the Dream, who have lost their 4th straight game.

Seattle looks deeper with the recent return of Katie Lou Samuelson, who started in this game. In previous contests, Candice Dupree and Stephanie Talbot have started for them in the past. Mercedes Russell has been getting most of the starts at center as Ezi Magbegor continues to be their project.

The Storm stay unbeaten on the road at 4-0.

Bullet Passes

The Dallas Wings never trailed the Phoenix Mercury in their second game in four days. The Mercury cut the deficit to three in the first half but the Wings went on a 12-0 run that went across the end of the second and then the start of the third.

The Wings and Mercury are now both at .500 at 5-5.

Satou Sabally went for 17-6-4 in her fourth game back. The Wings certainly look better with both Sabally and Allisha Gray back in the fold.

It’s encouraging to see Aari get more burn as the season goes on.
