Aces Win High-Scoring Affair Against Mystics

Welcome to the Basketball Hangover. I write about what’s happening in the WNBA daily as we try to heal from this pandemic.

It was a very good game between the Aces and the Mystics. Of course, the Mystics wished they had Elena Delle Donne and Emma Meesseman.

But they had Myisha Hines-Allen and Ariel Atkins doing the work. They were up by as much as 11 points in that first half.

Of course, the Aces had Liz Cambage, who was laughing while posting up Tina Charles.

Too easy for Liz.

Eventually, buckets from Jackie Young, Cambage, and Riquna Williams overwhelmed D.C. They led, 90-77, with four minutes to go. The Mystics knew they only had that much time to save the world.

Hines-Allen and Atkins scored all of the points in that 13-0 run to tie the game.

But A’ja Wilson was able to score a lay-up. She had been struggling all game and she came up big late.

After Wilson made free throws with 3.1 seconds left to put Vegas up three, she was able to steal the inbounds pass to clinch the game.

The Aces got fantastic contributions from Cambage (24 points, 11 boards), Young (22 points), and Williams (20 points). A’ja struggled from the field (15 points from 3/14 shooting) but made the big plays and grabbed the boards (15 rebounds). Myisha Hines-Allen led the Mystics with 32 points and 13 boards while Ariel Atkins scored 29.

Vegas goes to 7-3 while the Mystics are 2-5.

Bullet Passes

The Sparks go above .500 as the Sky were handed their 7th straight loss. Youch.

And the Sky’s last four losses were by three points, one, three, and five. Those three-point losses were in overtime and that one-point loss was to a Kia Nurse buzzerbeater.

As friend of the site, Maggie Hendricks said, they’re not even a young team. It’s quite baffling.

The Connecticut Sun continued their winning ways as they plastered the New York Liberty. The Sun are now 8-2 as Jonquel Jones led them with 31 points and 13 boards.

In the meantime, the Liberty have lost three straight and they might be coming back down to Earth.

But the Sun will have to be without Jones for possibly the rest of the month as she has committed to doing the FIBA Women’s Eurobasket tourney. It’s such bad timing because the Sun are on a roll and Jones is the leading candidate to be MVP this season.

It would be great to have Alyssa Thomas right now. But now they just hope to survive about 5 games without Jones.

Mean rejection by Nia Coffey on Stefanie Dolson.

The Sky just can’t get anything going.

Everyone, please take care of yourselves during this pandemic. And that goes for everyone involved with the WNBA as well.
