Stupid Power Rankings (Week 9 of the 2020-21 NBA Season)

People LOVE Power Rankings in sports. It’s pretty stupid. So, of course, I have MY Stupid Power Rankings. I take 10 things from the NBA and WNBA (or not) in the past week and rank them accordingly. You don’t like them? Make your own rankings!

Let’s start this countdown with a BANG.

1) The Dunk of the Year

This is just the meanest from Top Gun Anthony Edwards.

I can’t describe how DISRESPECTFUL this dunk was. Just watch. I don’t see how this dunk could be topped this season.

2) The Nets Sweep The Pacific

So the Nets have been much-maligned this season. They have a super team but, at times, they have looked pedestrian.

Well, pedestrian crossing. They have beaten all 5 Pacific Division teams on their road trip. Yes, that includes the Los Angeles teams. And they didn’t have Kevin Durant for most of that trip!

3) 50-Point Friday

On Friday, Jamal Murray scored 50 points without going to the line! Later on that night, Joel Embiid matched the 50 by LIVING at the line.

They scored differently but they both got to 50.

4) Heat Players Set A Record

Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo got triple-doubles on Thursday. They are the first teammates that have multiple games where they both got triple-doubles in the same game. This thing used to be hard, right?

5) LeBron James Scored His 35,000th Point

Two other players have reached this milestone: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone. This is not bad at all for a pass-first dude, right?

Yes. I noticed they all were Lakers at one point.

6) Timberwolves Coaching Change

Ryan Saunders got fired from the T-Wolves. The team brings in Chris Finch, who was working as a Raptors assistant coach.

Saunders should be okay; most of these coaches usually do. But I just think it’s going to be more of the same with the Wolves, especially since they’ve been hit with injuries and the fact that Karl-Anthony Towns has been going through the motions. I really really worry about him, guys.

7) All-Star Game is Officially Happening

Nothing you can say or do to stop it. You just hope they all stay safe.

I guess we do have some entertainment options on March 7th.

8) Arguing Over All-Star Starters

All of these guys on the team deserve it. It can just be pathetic, though, when people argue over this endlessly. And then they have to put down some players just to raise up their argument. I can promise you that they don’t care what YOU say.

But I guess on the bright side, the NBA LOVES that you argue about this.

9) Draymond Green Ejection

When you’re up two with seconds left and there’s a questionable call from the refs, you probably should try to let that go. Draymond Green did not. He got hit with a tech and I suppose, that’s already bad enough. But they would still be up one had Charlotte made the free throw.

Green pushed it, got a second tech, and got ejected. Charlotte was able to tie the game and then WIN it with a Terry Rozier shot. That loss COULD haunt the Warriors down the line but the fact of the matter was that Draymond Green easily could’ve walked away from the situation. That was the difference between a win and a loss. Yes, I get that the referees CAN be bad. But that happens. Just let that go.

For what it’s worth, Draymond acknowledged that he did not handle the situation correctly.

10) So All-Star Parties Are Not Allowed, Eh?

Adam Silver said so. We know there’s still a pandemic going on.

And then we see these advertisements.

This is a potential nightmare.

Everyone, please take care of yourselves during this pandemic. And that goes for everyone involved with the NBA as well.
