Stupid Power Rankings (Week 1 of the 2020-21 NBA Season)

People LOVE Power Rankings in sports. It’s pretty stupid. So, of course, I have MY Stupid Power Rankings. I take 10 things from the NBA and (or not) in the past week and rank them accordingly. You don’t like them? Make your own rankings!

It’s the first week of the regular season! Here we go.

1) The Lakers’ Ring Ceremony

Ring ceremonies are always cool but with the pandemic happening, they couldn’t do it in front of fans. However, we had family members and friends of players, coaches, and staff introducing them and that’s a really nice touch. I say they start doing this every year even when the fans come back to the arenas.

2) Buddy Hield Game-Winner

Denver was supposed to get a shot here but the Sacramento Kings played great defense and was able to steal the game-winner off a Buddy Hield tip-in. Heads-up play by the team.

3) Scary Terry Dunks on Kevin Durant

It’s not often anyone dunks on a star like Kevin Durant. Terry Rozier just went up and did it. What a play.

4) Christian Wood Rockets Debut

There’s a reason this man was sought after by teams. James Harden made sure to put Wood in positions to succeed and the center went for 31 points and 13 boards in a close overtime loss against Portland. Harden’s Rockets aren’t as deep as they used to be but they found a gem in Wood.

5) These Pelicans Jerseys

I like these. They look sooooo clean.

6) Russell Westbrook Triple-Doubles

Russell Westbrook started off the season with two triple-doubles in his first two games. In his first one against Philadelphia, he got that feat by the third quarter. The Russell Westbrook experience may be back but the Wizards are still 0-3 (he didn’t play on Sunday).

7) Reggie Bullock Jersey Mishap

This is pretty funny but how does this even happen?!

8) Golden State Warriors Look Bad

Oh, did they look bad the first two games. Stephen Curry and James Wiseman may be the only competent players on the current roster with Klay Thompson out for the season and Draymond Green sitting out thus far. If you watched Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Oubre, Jr. play, you might have thought they’re playing basketball for the first time in their lives.

They would be lower if Damion Lee didn’t bail them out against Chicago.

9) NBA Christmas Day Sucked

Christmas is always nice with the NBA on. But none of the games turned out exciting despite these match-ups having potential. 2020, man.

10) The Clippers Lost By 51

As if Laker fans needed more ammunition. How do you get down by FIFTY at halftime? FIFTY POINTS.

Everyone, please take care of yourselves during this pandemic. And that goes for everyone involved with the NBA as well.
