Stupid Power Rankings (Bubble Week 10)

People LOVE Power Rankings in sports. It’s pretty stupid. So, of course, I have MY Stupid Power Rankings. I take 10 things from the NBA and WNBA (or not) in the past week (well, today’s an exception) and rank them accordingly. You don’t like them? Make your own rankings!

I’m late again. For good reason. Something big happened in the WNBA. As in…

1) The Seattle Storm Win The ‘Chip

The Seattle Storm are on the verge of a dynasty here. Maybe we’d be talking threepeat if Breanna Stewart didn’t tear her Achilles. The fact is that they looked like the best team in the Wubble. Yes, they lost twice to the Las Vegas Aces in the regular season but they didn’t have their full roster there. When they did in the Finals, they crushed the Aces. Even if Sue Bird retires (we hope she doesn’t), they’re still good to go with Jordin Canada as their starting point guard.

Congrats to the Storm!

2) Jimmy Butler’s 40-Point Trip-Dub Saves the Heat

Jimmy Butler needed to do something spectacular for the Heat to stay in the Finals. He did. He went for 40 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists as he helped the Heat shock the Lakers in Game 3. It was definitely the best game of his NBA career, stats-wise and situation-wise.

3) Sue Bird Is Droppin’ Dimes

Sue set a record by dropping playoff and Finals record 16 assists in Game 1. She continued to pass it around, dishing 10 and 7 assists in the last two games to average 11 dimes per game in the Finals.

Please play forever, Sue.

4) Breanna Stewart Went For 37 and 15

Stewie dominance. She held off the Aces time and time again in Game 1 and dropped 37 and 15 in Game 1. She fell one point short of the Finals record (ironically held by Angel McCoughtry, who was her opponent in the Finals but did the record for the Atlanta Dream). But to do all of that PLUS coming back from a torn Achilles 18 months ago is remarkable. I don’t think people realize how incredible that is.

5) Anthony Davis Continues To Make Big Shots

Davis continues to make clutch shots in the playoffs. We remember his game-winner against Denver. Now he makes another three here to put the lead up 9 in Game 4 to make sure the Heat don’t get close again. It’s been quite a revelation in this postseason.

6) This Sue Bird Meme

Sue joked that she didn’t even bother asking her teammates how old they were when she won her first title in 2004.

Well, we all know the “how it started/how’s it going” thing here. Sue won the internet yet again.

7) Bam Adebayo Was Able To Come Back

It’s great that Bam Adebayo was able to play in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. It’s not often players get to the Finals so it’s good that he gets to experience it.

Hopefully, Goran Dragic gets to play in Game 5.

8) The Aces and the Sun Had a Slugfest

This felt like a Game 5 in a WNBA playoff series. It was NOT pretty. It was NOT beautiful basketball. But it was nerve-wracking every possession and certainly exciting in its own way. The Aces came away with a low-scoring win, 66-63, to get to the WNBA Finals.

(It’s just too bad that they got annihilated by the Storm.)

9) Doc Rivers Is A Coach Again

Doc took the Philadelphia 76ers head coaching job THREE days after he got let go by the Clippers. He’s good to have anywhere as a coach and a spokesperson for the team.

He did say that it’s okay to call him Glenn Rivers (his real name) because there’s only one “Doc” in Philly (that’s Julius Erving to you). Well, we’re just too used to Doc.

(You do know how he got the name Doc, right?)

10) The Tyler Herro Face

I don’t mind a 20-year-old doing that face in the NBA Finals. He’s out there battling. Even if he looks stupid.

My beef here is that once it’s on the internet, it gets played out with unfunny memes and captions. I hate you, internet.
