Welcome to the Basketball Hangover. Let’s take a look at how the ladies in the WNBA are doing!

So maybe I got way ahead of myself when I talked about the Seattle Storm. The Storm had a game against the Las Vegas Aces in what was hailed as a Finals preview between the two teams.

The Las Vegas Aces landed a haymaker in the second period as they outscored the Storm, 26-11. A lot of the Storm’s offense is predicated on the three-pointer and they just didn’t have it that day (7 for 26, .269). And as we all know, the Las Vegas Aces are very old-school with their play. A lot of shots in the paint and not much behind the arc (2 for 11, .182). But that’s their style.

The Aces led by 18 with four minutes and change before the Storm went on a furious rally. They were able to cut the deficit down to 5 points but couldn’t capitalize any further. Still, Las Vegas took the duke and can rightfully claim to be the best… around… the W.

The Storm can chalk it up as a bad game but they can’t have too many bad games against a team like the Aces. Seattle has lost two in a row after going 11-1. Breanna Stewart was a killer with 29 points and 18 rebounds. Natasha Howard continues to get out of her funk with 16 points and 9 boards. But Jewell Loyd, who had 35 points in their loss against Indiana, only scored three measly points in a 1-for-11 effort. Seattle didn’t have Sue Bird for this game but this team was still deep enough to offset Sue sitting out.

Las Vegas just works it inside. A’ja Wilson continues to make her case as this year’s MVP with 23 points and 14 rebounds. The good thing about not having Liz Cambage in the line-up (and I’m sure they would WANT her on the court) was that it gave A’ja more room to work with. Angel McCoughtry also operated well with 13 points and 14 boards. And back-up guard Danielle Robinson scored 16. Again, they just like to put up shots inside the paint and at the midrange. And it works for them. It drives a lot of analysts mad but I say you go with what you’re good with.

Well, at least, we’re going to see these two run it back on Thursday!

Bullet Passes

Brittney Griner has left the Wubble for personal reasons. The Phoenix Mercury have no further comment or update about that. Hopefully, she’s okay. If she does return, she’d have to quarantine for a week

Kahleah Copper, Courtney Vandersloot, and Allie Quigley were a formidable trio against the Indiana Fever as they scored 24 of 27 points in the first quarter. Indy only scored 12. The Sky won wire-to-wire. Copper would lead the team with 26 points.

The good news in the New York Liberty‘s front was that Sabrina Ionescu doesn’t need surgery for her ankle. If the original timeline holds, she could be back in about 10 days or so.

Meanwhile, the Liberty themselves aren’t doing great on the court. The Connecticut Sun also won the game in wire-to-wire fashion as they pummeled New York by 17 points. After starting out 0-5, they have won 6 of 9 games. The Sun are positioned in 7th in the standings.

Sloot hangs… and dishes without looking to Ruthy Hebard. That was sweet.
