Welcome to the Basketball Hangover. Let’s take a look at how the ladies in the WNBA are doing!

Every WNBA fan knows at this point that the Chicago Sky and the Las Vegas Aces are going to give us a heart-stopper.

We all remember the second round match-up they had last year (hey, my first time writing about the WNBA ever!). Courtney Vandersloot does a jump pass that gets intercepted by Dearica Hamby. Then she put up a 40-foot fling even though there were still seconds left in the game and it miraculously went in. Vegas would go on to win, 93-92, and eliminate the Sky from the postseason.

Then we had the rematch in the season opener. Vegas was up, 86-77, with four minutes left. But the Sky mounted a furious comeback. It was topped off by this clutch three by Allie Quigley.

This time around, Sloot got to make the right pass. But what a shot by Quigley.

And then they faced off once again on Tuesday. The Sky would quickly erase the 11-point lead the Aces built in the second quarter. Chicago would take control and we all thought they would win going away.

BUT IT’S THE SKY AND THE ACES SO OF COURSE, THIS HAS TO BE DRAMATIC.

The Sky were up by 11 themselves with 2:40 left before Vegas themselves had their own fast and furious comeback. My niece’s favorite player, Kayla McBride, would make a fastbreak three to cut the lead to two with 18 seconds left. Then she would steal the errant inbounds pass by the Sky. Kayla calmly made both free throws after she was fouled and we had ourselves another tie (at 82) in the closing seconds.

So Chicago would roll out this fundamental play.

Look at the screens done here by the Sky! A double screen helped Sloot make the play to a cutting Azura Stevens (who set the first screen) for the lay-up. That was just so good. Danielle Robinson of Las Vegas would miss the three-pointer in the next/last play and the Sky stopped the Aces’ long winning streak. Courtney Vandersloot would finish with 15 points and 15 assists (tying her career-high).

This is the second and final time they will face each other in the regular season. Now can we get these two teams in a best-of-five series? That would be the best and I’m sure all WNBA fans would want this to go down.

And I’m sure so do the Sky and the Aces.

Bullet Passes

DeWanna Bonner went for 28 points and 8 boards as the Connecticut Sun ran away from the Indiana Fever in the fourth quarter. After an 0-5 start, the Sun have won 5 of their last 7 games and I’m starting to feel a little afraid of what they could do in the postseason. They’re currently ranked 7th in the standings and remember that the Top 8 qualify regardless of conference.

But of course, the scariest of them all are the Seattle Storm. They maimed the New York Liberty on Tuesday and a good friend said that the Storm are the Varsity squad. By the way, they’ve won 9 straight games.

The other team with a decently long win streak is the Los Angeles Sparks. They have won four straight and are 7-3. It’s a little weird that I’M sleeping on them considering that I live in the area. I’m stupid.

Double U Scoreboard

IND 62 (4-7) v CON 84 (5-7)
LV 82 (8-3) v CHI 84 (8-4)
NY 64 (1-10) v SEA 105 (11-1)
