Zach LaVine and the Bulls Show That An NBA Game Is Not Over Until It’s Over

Welcome to the NBA Hangover. We jot down NBA stuff mostly from last night that we want to talk about. Check it out.

Zach LaVine did what two other men did in the NBA.

The Bulls scored 16 points in a 55-second window. Actually, the Bulls scored 11 points in a 25-second window. That is INCREDIBLE.

But this is why I tend to watch until the end of the game because you never know. I’ve watched too much basketball to know that, at some point, a miraculous comeback like this happens. Zach LaVine was INCREDIBLE in this game, scoring 49 points off 13 threes (which included the game-winner, of course).

Can we go through some of these amazing scoring spurts at the end of NBA games?

This was kind of ruined by Jeff Malone but Rodney Rogers made three three-pointers in nine seconds in this 1994 game. They were down, 94-86, but the last three gave Denver the lead. Too bad that the Jazz took it away but you can see what can happen in literally nine seconds.

This was the famous Reggie Miller moment against New York in the 1995 Playoffs. The Pacers were down, 105-99, with 18.7 seconds left. Miller made a three, was able to get a steal, and made another three off of that. Just like that, it was a tied game.

Somehow, the Pacers fouled John Starks in the backcourt. But Starks missed both foul shots. Patrick Ewing got the board but missed a short jumper. Miller got fouled on the rebound and then converted HIS free throws. Greg Anthony slipped and the Knicks let the game slip away.

This was considered Reggie Miller’s greatest moment. But, yes, a six-point lead with 18 seconds CAN disappear just like that.

And of course, there’s the famous 2004 game where Tracy McGrady scored 13 points in 33 seconds. You just watch and marvel. But an NBA game never is over until you see zeroes on the clock.

So yeah, while this doesn’t happen very often, you can always hope that your favorite team pulls off something like this.

You know how people always tell you to shoot your shot? This is why. In the NBA’s case, they shoot MANY shots.

Bullet Passes

We mentioned LaVine had 13 threes. Well, he tied Stephen Curry for second-most threes in a game. Klay Thompson went for 14 in THREE QUARTERS, which leaves the record WIDE open.

Also, here’s LaVine compared to the other big scoring games the NBA had this season:

The Blazers continue to lose. They even got Damian Lillard back but he wasn’t enough to even counter the Cleveland Cavaliers.

As for Carmelo Anthony? He’s averaging 13 points off of 34 percent shooting. And for a guy that hasn’t played NBA in a year, he’s playing a lot of minutes at 29 per. That’s some pretty good conditioning.

What matters to fans, though, is that they’re not winning. The days go by fast, man.

The San Antonio Spurs finally won a game! The cure to an NBA team’s ills is to play the New York Knicks. The Spurs’ 8-game losing streak has been snapped and that is the longest losing streak for San Antonio in 22 years. Woof.

Jimmy Butler returned to Philadelphia for the first time since he’s been traded. He only scored 11 points as the Heat got blown out.

The man he was traded for? Josh Richardson went for 32. That’s a loud statement from the Sixers that basically said, “Thanks, Jimmy, for all you did. But we don’t need you anymore.”

The Lakers are 14-2 after winning a close one (and being down big) against the Memphis Grizzlies. Dude, they are really getting comfortable with that switch. They’d better be careful.

Of course, it’s easy to feel comfortable when LeBron James is on your team. He’s been through way too many battles.
