Nicolas Batum and Marvin Bagley III Out with Finger Problems

Nicolas Batum will be on the shelf for a bit.

Yes, the season is barely two days old but some players are already getting hurt. Such is the game of basketball.

Here are two pretty important players having problems with their digits. Here’s some stuff from Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes:

First off, let’s talk about Nicolas Batum. Let’s not kid ourselves; the Hornets are probably not going to go anywhere. Batum is a veteran presence that can probably offer more to a contender than a rebuilding team. Still, it always helps to have a player that’s been through the battles help guide one of the more younger teams in the league.

In that case, they’ll miss Batum’s versatility for 3-4 weeks. He played 11 minutes in their game (scoreless but with 4 boards and 2 dimes) against Chicago last night before coming out. Batum has career averages of 11.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists but has been on a downward slide the last three seasons. It’s not really the thing you want to see, especially since Batum is owed $25 million this season. Woof.

Yes, that is his Summer League pic but that is STILL Marvin Bagley III.

Marvin Bagley III will miss a bit more time as he is slated to be out 4-6 weeks with that bad right thumb. What sucks about this was that he probably hurt his thumb while playing what was essentially a meaningless fourth quarter when the Phoenix Suns were kicking the Sacramento Kings‘ asses. The Kings should be okay depth-wise but it sucks to see a young player and his promise get derailed like this.

The ex-Duke Blue Devil had a double-double (14 points, 10 boards) last night. He averaged 14.9 points and 7.6 rebounds last year and was named to the All-NBA Rookie 1st Team.

Speedy recovery to both gentlemen.
