I wonder about the Washington Wizards just like everyone else. When do they think enough is enough? Should they keep going with this core? Should they deal one of their backcourt stars?
The Wizards are 25th in defensive rating (115.7 points allowed in 100 possessions) and they give up the most points per game (122.4!).
We always wonder about the chemistry. There were always whispers that Bradley Beal and John Wall don’t get along. Then we have each of them calling out other teammates in terms of effort (while you wonder about how THEIR effort is). Otto Porter is getting paid $100 million on his new deal and he’s not involved enough in the offense. The funny thing is that Dwight Howard, noted chemistry killer, hasn’t even played a game yet due to a BUTT injury (he’s coming back tonight).
And then there’s also Scott Brooks. You can give him credit for helping orchestrate a turnaround from a 3-9 start to 49 wins. But after that, there hasn’t been a noticeable improvement since.
I suppose we have that sort of history with the Wizards. There is that chance that they CAN turn it around. After all, they’re in the little brother conference and they might be able to get on a roll. They may be 1-6 now but they DID just come off a West Coast road trip that saw them lose their last four games.
They do have the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight at their home floor. They’ll have the Knicks after. OKC should be a tough one but they might be able to get some good feelings after the Knicks game. What if they lose both, though? Do they use the coach as the scapegoat as we all usually do? Do they put the dynamite in the middle and blow it all up?
They’re in a bit easier situation than the Rockets (again, conferences). But that doesn’t mean they can afford the losses right now. So they’d better win one quickly.
Otherwise, we’ll all just think of how and why they can’t get over the hump with this talented group.
