Stupid Power Rankings: Spicy Hot Curry

People are obsessed with power rankings. So naturally, we have one of our own but it’s not about how good sports teams are. Every Monday, we look at 10 things in the NBA (or not) and rank them in order of how much we liked each thing. Don’t agree with them? Make your own rankings!

1) Stephen Curry Is Off to a Scorching Start

Uh-oh.

Remember when Curry had that incredible 2015-16 campaign, when he went for a record 402 three-pointers? And it was also considered the greatest offensive season in NBA history.

Well, if the first seven games were any indication, he could eclipse that. He has 46 threes so far. He just got the record for most consecutive games with five three-pointers or more. If he plays 79 games like he did in 2015 and 2016, he’d be on pace for 519 threes!

Look at what he did against the Wizards in that video. He DISMANTLED them on his way to 51 points. He’s currently averaging 33.9 points per game and he can definitely keep that pace going.

If we get this kind of season beside a consistent Kevin Durant (only considered the second best player in the game), them Warriors are going to be even more dangerous. And that’s just off the page.

2) Blake Griffin Dropped a 50-Piece

The Pistons got off to a 4-0 start (before they finally lost to Boston). But Griffin went off against the Sixers. He scored a career-best 50 points, which included a dunk over Joel Embiid and the game-winning three-point play. Maybe he’s not done yet!

I wonder how Clipper fans are feeling right now.

3) Lillard Time

Well, the Blazers aren’t blazing right now but Damian Lillard is. He went off for consecutive 40-point games in Florida. Portland split those games but if Lillard continues to catch fire like that, watch out.

Also, you gotta love his Stone Cold costume.

4) LeBron James Is Now #6

6th, that is, in the NBA all-time scoring list. Only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and Wilt Chamberlain have more points than him. SERIOUSLY. LOOK AT THAT LIST.

5) Anthony Davis Got Jarrett Allen

Oh, no.

5B) Boogie Cousins Got Ejected

The best thing is that Boogie is STILL inactive. Who else gets ejected from a game that he’s not even playing in?

6) Zach LaVine Can’t Miss

Zach LaVine is having an incredible year so far (29.2 points per game). He can’t even miss a free throw if he wanted to.

It was a long shot but the Bulls were glad to come away with the win here.

7) Russell Westbrook is a Mario Brother

I’m not sure he did this on purpose but hey, it fit really well!

And booooo to all the people that were telling me that he was going to put up all bricks after wearing that. It’s NOT that serious, mang.

8) Solomon Hill Is Wearing a Du-Rag

HE ALSO GETS STYLE POINTS.

9) Tyronn Lue Was Fired

I get it. He’ll be fine. And he’ll still get his $15 million from the team.

It’s just bad optics to me. Yeah, the team is 0-6 (the only winless team left this season) but they haven’t had Kevin Love in the last couple of games. And it’s also not the best time to axe a coach. If you didn’t want him in the first place, why not fire him during the summer?

Oh, yeah. This is only the coach that took the team to three straight NBA Finals as well as win the only sports championship Cleveland had since 1964. He should never pay for a meal in Cleveland again.

10) Knicks Recruitment Pitch for Durant

This is hilarious but also reeks of desperation.

The Knicks have basically struck out on nearly every huge free agent (save for Amar’e Stoudemire) in the last decade or so. And now we’re seeing money spent on a billboard just to see if Kevin Durant would look at them.

I’m not saying Durant won’t leave but I’m sure he can find better situations to go to just in case he wants to leave a friggin’ dynasty. Oh, yeah. Durant scored 41 points this week at MSG.

Also, TONS OF POINTS PENALIZED for using “MAKE ___________ GREAT AGAIN.” Not only is the phrase not funny and not clever but it is also overused and reminds me of pure evil. Get out of here with that.

(I thought about putting the World Series in the rankings but I just felt somewhat apathetic towards it because it was a short series. Congrats to the Boston Red Sox.)
