Arike Scores 39 as Dallas Wings Hold at 8th Spot

Welcome to the Basketball Hangover. Here’s what’s going on in the WNBA.

Arike Ogunbowale scored a bunch of point as she helped the Dallas Wings defeat the Washington Mystics in overtime.

Arike Ogunbowale has done this quite a bit already.

Emma Meesseman gave an opening when she split the free throws to give the Mystics an 86-83 lead. With the closing seconds waning and no timeouts, Arike sprinted to her end of the court, stopped, and sidestepped for a three-pointer. And if you’ve followed Arike Ogunbowale thus far, you know that shot went in.

Ogunbowale would score 9 more points in overtime to give Dallas the win and bring her total to a career-best 39 points. They’re in the driver’s seat for the 8th and playoff spot. And in the do-or-die situation for the first two rounds of the playoffs, the Wings could make it interesting.

I’m not sure if I’d wanna face Arike in a single-game elimination bout. If everything is on the line, Arike seems to be at her best.

For one, let’s go back to 2018 when Notre Dame was in the Final Four. First, the national semifinals:

Amazing shot there by Arike. But it gets even better!

The national championship game:

SHE DID IT IN THE TWO MOST PRESSURE-PACKED COLLEGE GAMES. THE FINAL FOUR. Those hadn’t been seen before and I’m not sure we’ll ever see it again!

So she already showed she can do it in the pros, too. Now if the Dallas Wings get to the playoffs and the ball is in Arike’s hands? With EVERYTHING on the line?

I’m just saying. It’s something to think about.

Bullet Passes

Candace Parker went for 24 points and 15 boards in the Sparks‘ win over Chicago. She is having a late surge as the season comes to a close.

Another C. Parker, Cheyenne, had a career-best 24 points as well as 10 boards for the Sky. Oh, yeah. Courtney Vandersloot went for 15 more assists, bringing her season average to 9.8. She might set another record when the season is over.

The Storm keep winning. The thing is they haven’t secured anything yet. Las Vegas Aces only have four losses themselves and the Sparks are on 5 losses. They want to make sure they secure that double bye to the semifinals.

I can’t believe we’re down to 7 days left in the regular season.

Let’s see that Arike three.
