The Reopening

My first reaction when I learned that sports were going to happen (specifically the resumption of the NBA season and the start of the WNBA season) was of worry. We continue to be in a global pandemic and it has become especially fearful here in the United States because the people in power have continued to bungle this predicament we’re in right now. I’ve made it known over the past few months that there probably shouldn’t be sports happening in America for the rest of 2020.

But whatever I say is not going to stop these leagues. Sports is STILL a business so they’re going to go on in order not to lose their TV money. Yes, I get that. But sports can’t happen if people are dying, right?

I do know that both basketball leagues are going to be real stringent with their Coronavirus testings. So far, they’ve been okay and even medical experts have said that this is as good as they’re going to get in terms of protecting the athletes.

As expected, there have been a few positive tests in both leagues and they’re in quarantine to protect other people. Maybe the WNBA has a better chance of lasting because there are fewer people and fewer games (we’re having a 22-game season instead of the increased 36-game campaign that was supposed to be implemented this season).

But the NBA does have 22 teams and they intend to be in their Disneyworld bubble for a few weeks (it seems to get safer as the playoffs start to eliminate some teams from contention). Still, one bonehead move can bring down the bubble. Lou Williams from the L.A. Clippers is being investigated for his reasons for leaving a couple of days ago. The wings must be that delicious or the Disney princesses weren’t hot enough for him. But I digress.

So being this is an NBA (and WNBA) blog, I will talk about the happenings of both leagues here. I feel like this is a service I can still provide while we’re all trying our best to live in this pandemic. Do I agree with them playing sports right now? Absolutely not. But I will continue to support both leagues as they put their lives on the line by entertaining us and using their platform to make everyone aware that black lives do matter.

So I shall reopen The No-Look Pass today. I may not have the Xs and Os, the salary cap expertise, or the advanced stats knowledge like most other people do. But I hope that my voice provides another alternative to the game of basketball. Just like I’ve been doing since 2008.

Hope everyone stays safe. Including the athletes giving us entertainment while we’re all at home.
