Tina Charles Continues to Dominate This Season

Welcome to the Basketball Hangover. I write about what’s happening in the WNBA daily as we try to heal from this pandemic.

Tina Charles had another dominant game in D.C.’s overtime win over Chicago.

I read somewhere that Tina Charles is having a renaissance season. It’s not only that but she is having a CAREER season.

It’s her 8th 30-point game this season. She went for 34 points and 17 boards. These performances have been regular for her in 2021. She leads the W with 26.3 points per game and is second in rebounding at 10.0 rebounds. What about HER for Most Valuable Player? Sure, the team is 8-10 but this team would be so much worse without Tina Charles.

Against Chicago, she came up with some clutch plays. After Ariel Atkins tried to win the game with a three-pointer, she got the rebound and put it back for the game-tying basket. The game went to overtime and Charles made a huge three to put them up five points. Chicago never came back from that and Washington came out with the win.

I’ve said this before but I really hope D.C. gets healthy soon. Imagine that terrifying frontcourt of Elena Delle Donne and Charles. Woof.

In the meantime, it sometimes feels like Charles is doing this all by herself for the Mystics. They may not be winning but it is fun to watch her get all the buckets and boards in this one-woman show.

This is the putback that tied the game and sent it to overtime.

Let’s hope we see more of this dominance after the Olympic break.

Everyone, please take care of yourselves during this pandemic. And that goes for everyone involved with the WNBA as well.
