Stupid Power Rankings (Week 13 of the 2020-21 NBA Season)

People LOVE Power Rankings in sports. It’s pretty stupid. So, of course, I have MY Stupid Power Rankings. I take 10 things from the NBA and WNBA (or not) in the past week and rank them accordingly. You don’t like them? Make your own rankings!

We’re back on regular rotation as we have the league’s first full week since the All-Star break. Here we go!

1) Hawks Stay Unbeaten in March

Just wow.

As this goes online, the Hawks are about to take on the Clippers to put their 8-game win streak on the line. But that’s the thing: they’ve won 8 straight. And this was after we pointed doomsday on them after they let go of Lloyd Pierce. Now they’re playing to their potential.

We’ll see if they can keep it going against the Clips.

2) Blazers Come Back Big Against the Pelicans

The Blazers were down 17 points against New Orleans halfway through the fourth quarter. Then we saw Dame Time happen as he helped spur a 13-0 run. And then after the Pels blew chance after chance, Damian Lillard made clutch free throws with 1.2 seconds left. Zion Williamson missed a post hook after a really good long pass from Lonzo Ball. But a miss is a miss. Dolla cashed in 50 in this really impressive comeback win.

3) Bam Bammed Sabonis the Younger

I wish Domantas Sabonis went up stronger on this. Try to block the shot. You’re capable of it. If you’re going to get posterized, come up and meet him.

Instead, it’s an even more humiliating result. Woof.

4) Chris Paul Reached 10K

Chris Paul is only the 6th player to reach 10,000 assists. That is so damn impressive.

5) This Ridiculous Luka Pass

Yes. Let’s fake a jumper by throwing it behind me. What a showoff.

6) Blake Griffin Dunked

So Blake Griffin hadn’t dunked since December 2019. Once he got to Brooklyn, he showed he can still do this. Has… he been holding it back?

7) The Raptors Can’t Win Anymore

As I’m typing this, the Raptors have lost 8 straight games and I can’t fathom this being the same consistent Toronto team that has been making the playoffs year after year. Some of their players, like Kyle Lowry and Norman Powell, are looking more and more likely to get dealt.

At least, they won a title two years ago.

8) No LeBron For The Lakers

They lost LeBron James last Saturday afternoon to a high ankle sprain. Now the Lakers will be without LeBron AND Anthony Davis. Obviously, having an injury is never good on anyone’s list but now I’m talking about the Lakers trying to stay afloat in the standings with both stars out. This is gonna be tough since the West is a battle royale.

9) Rockets Are At 20 Straight Losses

Man. The Rockets were once over .500 at 11-10. And then they went through this ridiculous hibernation. I understand injuries happen but I still thought they had a semi-decent team there.

Also, they’re battling another team on a skid in Toronto as of this writing. One of them HAS to win.

10) LaMelo Ball’s Injury Prompting This Tweet

It sucks that LaMelo Ball may be out for the rest of the season due to a fractured right wrist. But somehow, this prompted this tweet from D’Angelo Russell.

Maybe don’t tweet like this at the same time an announcement is made. This looks like in poor taste. And I like D’Angelo and have vehemently defended him since he came into the league.

I know there’s a lot of March Madness going on. I hate that the women have been mistreated by the NCAA. I haven’t kept up as much in this tournament this year since it’s just to have sports in the middle of a pandemic.

Also, Shawn Bradley (former Sixers/Mavs center) was, unfortunately, paralyzed in a bicycle accident. All the positive vibes to him and his family.

Finally, the great Elgin Baylor passed away on Monday. He is one of the most underappreciated players in NBA history. And he even seems to be ignored when it comes to mentioning Laker greats. We also know him for having a 22-year stint as a Clippers executive. Elgin has done so much for the league.

Rest In Peace.

Everyone, please take care of yourselves during this pandemic. And that goes for everyone involved with the NBA as well.
