Welcome to the Basketball Hangover. Here’s what’s going on in the WNBA.

After Thursday, we were talking about how the Washington Mystics are suddenly tied with the Dallas Wings for the 8th spot.
Well, the Mystics are all alone in that spot now. That’s because the Dallas Wings lost to the Chicago Sky. The Wings are suddenly tied with the Atlanta Dream, who scored a major win over the Connecticut Sun.
Check out what’s going on from 8 down on.
The Mystics are going to be playing back-to-back games this weekend and they’re going to be playing the Liberty in about 10 minutes as I type this. Playing the Liberty has been nearly a guaranteed win but stranger things have happened.
In the meantime, the Dream played the Sun on Friday and it was tied going into the fourth before an 8-0 run broke it open. Chennedy Carter thrilled with 22 points. The Sun end their regular season at 10-12 and prepare for a showdown with the Chicago Sky in the first round.
And the Sky took care of business by beating the Wings. They scored the last 12 points of the game and survived a 38-point game from Arike Ogunbowale. Ruthy Hebard scored a career-best 22 points while Cheyenne Parker led the Sky with 23 points.
We’ll see who’ll take the 8th spot after this weekend. Selfishly, I want everyone to make it but only one team can take it.
Bullet Passes
Courtney Vandersloot finished one assist shy of averaging exactly 10 assists per game. She finished at 9.95 and set yet another record for most assists per game in a season. Sloot beat the record for the fourth consecutive year.
The less said about what happened between the Storm and the Mercury, the better.
The Mercury loss did clinch a bye for the Minnesota Lynx, who kind of fell into it. They have lost three straight games in their longest swoon of the season.
The Las Vegas Aces still have to play the L.A. Sparks and the Storm this weekend. They haven’t been guaranteed a double bye yet. That means the Sparks can still get to that.
4 through 7 are locked in as the Mercury, Sky, and Sun seasons are done. As mentioned, the Sky will take on the Sun in one of the single-elimination first round games while the Mercury await for the 8th seed team.

I always appreciate a good no-look pass. It’s one of Sloot’s 12 assists. This one went to Hebard.
