Stupid Power Rankings (Week 6 of the 2019-20 NBA Season)

People LOVE Power Rankings in their sports. We do have one but in the aspect of ranking 10 things that happened in the NBA In the last week. Don’t like these rankings? You can make one on your own, you know.

What happened during Week 6 of the NBA regular season? Let’s get into it.

1) James Harden Scored 60 in Three Quarters

There are so many things he’s doing right now. Harden has his fourth 60-point game in three seasons. He’s averaging 38.9 PPG, which would be the third best in NBA history should he keep it up. And he did this 60-point game in three quarters.

He’s likely the one that could break 81 or even 90 if an opportunity presents itself. I don’t see why not.

2) Ben Simmons Steals the Ball Three Times in 14 Seconds

The Pacers were up by one against the Sixers when Simmons decided it was time to play shutdown corner against them. THIS is how you close a game on defense.

3) Julius Randle Takes a Soul

Just watch. This is catching a body. Wow.

4) The Blazers and Melo Are Alive and Well

The Blazers went 3-0 this week and Carmelo Anthony has played really well. So well, in fact, that he was named Western Conference Player of the Week. He averaged 22.3 points and shot 57 percent in the last three games.

Maybe don’t give up on these guys yet.

5) Klay Thompson On Commentary

It’s pretty much what you expect from Klay. He’ll approve of some nicknames given by Bob Fitzgerald and Kelenna Azubuike. He’ll talk about his dog. And he’ll talk about how Zach LaVine nearly broke his three-point record.

He also took over the postgame interview, much to the surprise of the Warriors sideline reporter, Kerith Burke. He was fantastic.

6) Old-School NBA Jerseys

I propose these to be the permanent jerseys for both teams. I’ve always liked these Jazz and Grizzlies unis.

7) New Orleans Seeing Anthony Davis Back

The Pelicans would’ve loved to beat Davis and the Lakers. And, yes, New Orleans led big early on. But they lost the lead and the Lakers continued to feed Davis. Davis scored 41 points and stole the inbounds pass from the Pelicans as the Lakers were hanging on to a two-point lead. THAT is a gut shot to the Pelicans and their fans.

8) Kyrie “Coward” Posters

I mean, I get why Boston fans would do this. This would be Kyrie Irving‘s first game back since leaving the Celtics but he was out with a shoulder injury. Kyrie Irving admitted he could’ve done better as a leader in Boston (he also noted his grandfather died early in the season) and it just didn’t work out. Fans, however, won’t forgive Irving just like that.

So they hung these “coward” posters all around Boston. Kyrie was understandably hurt by that, saying that fans and media don’t care about the human being in the pro athlete. I totally understand where Kyrie is coming from and perhaps these “coward” posters were not the best way to go about it. Yes, there is an antagonist in any sort of conflict, including competitive sports. But maybe think about the human being that is Kyrie Irving, guys.

9) Vince Carter vs Giannis

Vince Carter is 43 years old next month. There was no way he could stop Giannis Antetokounmpo here.

10) Joel Embiid Couldn’t Score Against The Raptors

Joel Embiid couldn’t make anything. He even went 0 for 3 from the line. The Raptors won by five points and if Joel was able to muster SIX points, they would’ve won. As it is, Embiid continues to have bad juju against Toronto.
