TNLP Stupid Power Rankings: The Clippers Are Currently Great and America Currently Is Not

Power Rankings can be really stupid. So stupid that The No-Look Pass just had to have “Stupid Power Rankings.” I take 10 things that happened in the league (well, not really; you’ll see why) and rank them all however I see fit.

This feature is usually on every Monday. Disagree with the rankings? Well, we already prefaced that these are stupid. Just have fun with these as I rank these however I feel where they stupidly belong.

1) It’s Hip To Clip

The Clippers are a league-best 9-1 and everything seems to be working just fine with them. Again, we’re not in springtime yet where the Clippers seem to fail year after year.

But you’d rather have them play this way. People would be saying unflattering terms about the Clips if they were 5-5 or worse. They are tops in defensive rating right now and they slid into the Top 10 in offense as their play on that end is starting to catch up.

It’s all rainbows, unicorns, and gardens right now. Let’s hope it stays that way for the Clips.

2) Curry Made 13 Three-Pointers In A Game

Most players don’t get to even shoot 13 times in a game but yet here is Stephen Curry MAKING 13 three-pointers. But if you’ve watched Curry play, you know it was only a matter of time before he broke the record of most three-pointers in a single game. That record was 12, held by Curry, Kobe Bryant, and the immortal Donyell Marshall.

Still, 13 three-pointers is incredible. It’s insane, really, because, come on now. That’s a lot of shots in an NBA game. It might be broken in the future but I don’t think it’s going to get much higher than this.

3) Andrew Wiggins

The Timberwolves aren’t off to a great start (as expected) at 3-6. But Andrew Wiggins might be having that leap season people are waiting for him to do. He scored 36 points early in the week against Brooklyn to achieve a career-best in scoring and he broke it again by putting in 47 against the Lakers last night.

So who is the real franchise player? Karl-Anthony Towns? Or Wiggins? Or BOTH? Kind of like in the Durant/Westbrook mold?

4) Saturday Night Live

Somehow, it was perfect timing that Dave Chappelle was hosting Saturday Night Live after Donald Trump was elected President. Chappelle was outstanding as expected as he busted out a monologue about how Black Lives Matter and how the nation should give Trump a chance but he DEMANDS that the historically disenfranchised people get one. There was also a skit about Election Night and how white liberals just realized that half the country is racist or, at least, don’t care if our president-elect is a racist.

This show might help some of us move on from what happened on Tuesday night. I personally think that, eventually, we’ll be okay. But right now, it’s kind of gross. Back to basketball before I get back to this subject.

5) The Returns of Flash and Air Congo

It’s weird for Dwyane Wade and Serge Ibaka to return to the arena that they called their home for years. Wade played for the Heat for 13 years and is basically an icon. He called it “the worst game of his career” but he did come through with clutch free throws to put away his former team.

Ibaka was with the Thunder for 7 years. And he had a career-best 31 points and made the game-winning shot against OKC. It was emotionally draining for both players, I’m sure, and I give them credit for getting through this.

I would put this higher but Harrison Barnes, despite having a good game with 25 points, lost big-time in his return to the Oracle Arena earlier this week.

6) Somebody Found The “You Got Mail” Dude

Isn’t it cool that the voice that greeted you on AOL every time you logged on in the mid-to-late 90s was THIS DUDE? I wish I was known for something random like that.

Well, I am known as an NBA online writer that likes the Spice Girls so there’s that.

7) Sixers and Pelicans Finally Won One

The Sixers beat the Pacers in overtime in the second game of their home-and-home. The Pelicans beat the Bucks last Thursday. Finally, they each both won a game this season.

Too bad, the road is only going to get tougher for both teams. Especially the Pelicans since they’re expected to contend for the postseason.

8) John Wall Is A Little Bit Angry

So John Wall broke the franchise assists record held by Wes Unseld against the Rockets but they would eventually lose that game. Also, Wall would get ejected after brushing up contact with an official.

He would get ejected for the second game in a row after he fouled Marcus Smart hard in a blowout win over Boston. The Wizards aren’t doing well and Wall is as frustrated as ever. It’s early in the season and they have time to turn this around but I don’t like the signs I’m seeing at the moment.

9) Nuggets Freefall

So the Nuggets lost in a last-second shot by Marc Gasol. After that loss, they got plastered by the surging Warriors, lost at home against the Pistons, and couldn’t hold a lead against the Blazers. I didn’t know how to figure out the Nuggets early in the season.

But now they’ve lost four straight. I think I’m starting to figure this out now. They might not be very good.

10) America Shouldn’t Be Living In Fear But…

So back to America. The country voted for Trump to be president. A well-known racist asshole. There’s no two ways about it. He’s an awful human being.

I’m as optimistic as anybody and I mentioned that “if we do our part, despite it all, we’ll be okay.” But again, I don’t feel real good about America, either. Anyway, “our part” means going out to the community, speaking and airing out our grievances, voting to put your voice out there, do some protests if you have to, and don’t spread the hate (and that’s going to be HARDER than it sounds). Fight for what you believe in. Treat good people with respect. It’s going to be tough to get the people filled with hatred on your side because they’re so set in their ways and will defend their thinking with whatever way possible.

I hate that there are so many people that are scared in this country right now. I’m not sure if that would’ve been the case if Trump wasn’t voted in. But the fact of the matter is that we’re in this predicament now. Everyone has different fears about this right now. I can’t tell people how to feel as their situations are different. All I can say is that we must fight for what we believe in and keep moving forward. Because that’s the only choice we have at this point.
