TNLP Stupid Power Rankings: George Hill Wins Player of the Week; Baby Lakers Are Fun

Power Rankings can be really stupid. So stupid that The No-Look Pass just had to have “Stupid Power Rankings.” I take 10 things that happened in the league (well, not really; you’ll see why) and rank them all however I see fit.

This feature is usually on every Monday. Disagree with the rankings? Well, we already prefaced that these are stupid. Just have fun with these as I rank these however I feel where they stupidly belong.

1) Chicago Cubs Won The World Series

The Chicago Cubs actually won the World Series! It had been talked about for so long that we never thought it was going to happen in our lifetimes and our childrens’ lifetimes. But this year’s version of the Cubs did it. And of course, they did it the hard way. They had to come back from a 3-1 deficit. There was a rain delay. They went extra innings. But they withstood everything and are now the World Series champions.

I don’t watch baseball as much as basketball but I can appreciate this championship win as much as anybody. Congrats, Cubs.

2) Western Conference Player of the Week George Hill

Look at this guy! George Hill was one of the veteran acquisitions the Jazz got and he’s helped them immensely. In the last week, the Jazz were 3-1 and Hill averaged 20.8 points, 3.3 boards, and 5.8 assists on his way to getting the West Player of the Week award.

If Hill continues to play like this, the Jazz might go to that next level.

3) The Baby Lakers

These Lakers are fun! After a loss to Indiana, the team won three straight games (including a huge victory over the Warriors at home). They’re playing a fun brand of basketball as the young’uns and veterans alike are sharing the ball that’s similar to the Warriors and the Spurs. And the young talent is starting to show what they can really do (Julius Randle has gotten off to a great start as a tweener and D’Angelo Russell, despite not shooting well, has made the right plays on leading the offense.

They might not even win 30 games this season but their progress will be fun to observe.

4) Ray Allen Officially Retires

He hasn’t played in a couple of years but Ray Allen has finally decided to call it a career. He made a career of making three after three after three (he made 2,973 in his NBA career). And he also made a career of having indelible clutch moments. We’ll never forget the three he made in Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals. That was probably the greatest clutch shot in NBA history.

From leading man to role player, Ray Allen did it all. Happy retirement, Jesus Shuttlesworth.

5) Devin Booker Is A Stud

Booker has wowed basketball pundits with his potential. In the last two games, he’s proven what he can do by scoring 38 points against the Pelicans and 39 points against the Lakers. His team isn’t exactly winning but he can definitely become the guy Phoenix can build around.

6) Paul Pierce Was Rick James on the Clippers Bench

It was Halloween. Pierce was not active for the game. So he was sitting on the bench dressed as… Rick James. Pretty funny.

Just don’t let him get near your couch, though.

7) Getting Hit In The Face By The Ball By Paul George

So getting hit in the face by a ball hurts and it sucks. But the ball was kicked by Pacers star Paul George. PG-13 went up to the fan that got hit and apologized.

Sure, you can tell friends you got hit in the face at a Pacers game. But at least, you got an apology and a hug from one of the best players in the NBA. That is something any fan will never forget.

8) Westbrook/Durant Showdown

We know there was a hoopla surrounding Kevin Durant leaving Oklahoma City for the Northern California Warriors. So the Thunder/Warriors game last Thursday was most anticipated. The drama was heavy. Russell Westbrook was supposedly even throwing subtle shots at former teammate Kevin Durant.

After a fast start by the Thunder, the Warriors ran away in the second quarter behind Durant’s 29 points in the first half. Durant ended with 39 points while Westbrook ended with a “pedestrian” 20-6-10> line. The Warriors won by 26 points. It’s pretty much the same thing that happened when LeBron James faced the Cavs for the first time as a member of the Miami Heat.

But this won’t be the most nuclear match-up between these two. The first game might be fireworks but expect OKC to thunder Durant down with boos on February 11th.

9) Chandler Parsons Scored No Points In Grizzlies Debut

He gets a max contract, gets injured early, and, in his first game with Memphis, misses all eight of his field goal attempts. Can’t really endear yourself to the Grizz fan base like that.

But the good news, Chandler Parsons? You’re still quite handsome.

10) The 2016 U.S. Presidential Election

Trust me. I can’t wait for this to be over.

But, Americans, as much as this election sucks, please vote.
