2016 East Finals Hangover (Game 2): Cavs Stay Undefeated in Playoffs After 10 Games

This is the Hangover. We get basketball-wasted all the time. Yes, we recap the NBA every night in our own way.

#2 TORONTO RAPTORS 89 @ #1 CLEVELAND CAVALIERS 108
EAST Finals – Game 2 – CAVALIERS lead series, 2-0

I was pretty much expecting more of the same. I was hoping it wasn’t but…

The Raptors did battle the Cavaliers to a stalemate for most of the first half. Even though Kyle Lowry was struggling (yet again), DeMar DeRozan kept the team within striking distance. Bismack Biyombo showed some moxie by getting into a confrontation with Kyrie Irving over a pick (or maybe on which cereal is best, I don’t know). A Patrick Patterson three tied the game at 46.

But four minutes was all it took for the Cavs to save the world. They went on a 16-2 run to close the first half that basically sealed the deal. In a peculiar move, Kyle Lowry went to the locker room (he said he had to “decompress”) with 2:35 left in the first half. He did go back in to play the final 19 seconds of the half but it was a weird time to do that.

Toronto didn’t put up much of a fight the rest of the way; they were never able to cut the deficit to single digits. LeBron James put up a triple-double and the Cavs are the fourth team to start 10-0 in the playoffs (1989 and 2001 Lakers as well as the 2012 Spurs). The Raptors just look overmatched in every aspect at the moment.

BUT the good thing about the playoffs is that one game (or even one moment) can change the complexion of the series. It’s a series again if the Raptors win Game 3.

As for Lowry, maybe he just had to take a massive poop. That counts as decompressing, right? Hey, when you gotta go, you gotta go.

Anyway, blowout. So corgis:

BEHIND THE LINES
LeBron James (CLE): 23 pts, 11 rebs, 11 assts.
Kyrie Irving (CLE): 26 pts.
DeMar DeRozan (TOR): 22 pts, 5 rebs.

Show off those hops, LeBron.

Cavs can be the third team in history to go 11-0 in the playoffs. But I think the Raptors don’t want that because they still wanna keep playing. I mean, I’m assuming the Raptors mean basketball.
