To nobody’s surprise, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors won his second straight Most Valuable Player award.
To everybody’s surprise, he won it in unanimous fashion:

If you paid attention to the league, you should know why Curry won MVP. BUT IF I MUST EXPLAIN…
Curry was the player that made the motor go for that team that became the greatest regular season team in NBA history. This team went through a season winning 73 games and losing only NINE. Oh, yeah. He was also the scoring champion in the league. And he shattered his own record for most three-pointers in a regular season. The previous record was 286 but he got 402 in this campaign. FOUR HUNDRED AND TWO. He would routinely sit down in the fourth quarter as well because, by that point, he has already wrecked their opponents.
“Who would win the MVP in the non-Curry division?” was actually a running conversation throughout the year because everyone pretty much knew Curry was going to win the MVP. And we really mean EVERYBODY, as evidenced by the voters. Kawhi Leonard was the name that got mentioned the most and he DID finish second amongst voters. LeBron James finished third while the Thunder duo of Russell Westbrook (who, by the way, had 18 triple-doubles!) and Kevin Durant ended up 4th and 5th, respectively. Curry’s teammate, Draymond Green, actually finished 7th!
It’s already tough enough for two people to agree on anything. In this case, 131 people agreed! It’s not really that hard to believe that LeBron, Michael Jordan, and Shaquille O’Neal never got the unanimous vote. Either somebody in the media dislikes an individual or someone would rather prop up a player from their home team. In this case, nobody did that (which is, again, amazing) and Stephen Curry becomes the first player to win the MVP award in a unanimous decision.
