2016 Playoff Hangover (Day 5): Cavaliers Tie Playoff Game Record For Most Three-Pointers

This is the Hangover. We get basketball-wasted all the time. Yes, we recap the NBA every night in our own way.

#6 CHARLOTTE HORNETS 103 @ #3 MIAMI HEAT 115
EAST First Round – Game 2 – HEAT lead series, 2-0

Al Jefferson showed why he used to be the #1 option for the Hornets by dropping 16 points in the second quarter. But the Heat were just that: HEAT. They shot 74 percent in the first half and scored 72.

The Hornets missed all but one of their three-pointers (16 attempts) as the Heat cruised to a 2-0 lead in the series. Charlotte coach Steve Clifford then talked about adjustments but, when it comes down to it, it’s just the basics that killed them. They just have to do better.

Also, Dwyane Wade had a vintage game.

BEHIND THE LINES
Dwyane Wade (MIA): 28 pts, 8 assts.
Hassan Whiteside (MIA): 17 pts, 13 rebs.
Kemba Walker (CHA): 29 pts, 5 rebs.
Al Jefferson (CHA): 25 pts, 7 rebs.

#8 DETROIT PISTONS 90 @ #1 CLEVELAND CAVALIERS 107
EAST First Round – Game 2 – CAVALIERS lead series, 2-0

The Pistons once again kept it competitive but the Cavs kept putting the pressure on with three-pointer after three-pointer after three-pointer. J.R. Smith, in particular, was a volcano as he made seven of those things. Overall, the Cavs tied a record for most three-pointers in a playoff game (20).

LeBron James got into it with rookie Stanley Johnson. James bumped Stanley near the scorer’s table. Johnson then mentioned postgame that he was in LeBron’s head.

I’m all for trashtalk but that was the wrong thing to say. “In his head”? The Pistons lost by 17. Come on now.

BEHIND THE LINES
LeBron James (CLE): 27 pts, 6 rebs, 3 stls.
Kyrie Irving (CLE): 22 pts.
J.R. Smith (CLE): 21 pts, 5 rebs.
Kevin Love (CLE): 16 pts, 10 rebs.
Andre Drummond (DET): 20 pts (4/16 FT), 7 rebs.

#5 PORTLAND TRAILBAZERS 81 @ #4 LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS 102
WEST First Round – Game 2 – CLIPPERS lead series, 2-0

The Blazers kept it close in the first three quarters before the Clippers went on a 12-2 run early in the fourth. Portland shot 34 percent and you’re probably not going to win a game shooting that badly.

Chris Paul had another underappreciated performance but really, we should be looking more into how great he’s been behind the Clipper playoff victories.

BEHIND THE LINES
Chris Paul (LAC): 25 pts, 6 rebs, 5 assts.
DeAndre Jordan (LAC): 3 pts, 18 rebs, 5 assts, 3 blks.
Mason Plumlee (POR): 17 pts, 10 rebs, 7 assts.
Damian Lillard (POR): 17 pts, 6 rebs.

And once again, the playoffs were awesome. Geez.
