The Suns, as you know, fired Jeff Hornacek. They finally named somebody their interim head coach for the rest of the season. Here’s Marc Spears from Yahoo! Sports with the report:

The Phoenix Suns have promoted assistant coach and former NBA player Earl Watson to interim head coach, a league source told Yahoo Sports.

The Suns fired Jeff Hornacek late Sunday night night after a 91-78 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Hornacek compiled a 101-112 record in two-plus seasons coaching the Suns, who have lost 19 of 21 games.

Watson got into coaching after a 13-year NBA playing career as a solid back-up point guard. He had career averages of 6.4 points and 4.4 assists for seven total teams, playing his best for the now-defunct Seattle SuperSonics. Miss you, Sonics.

In any case, Watson decided to go into coaching in the 2014-15 season, becoming an assistant for the Austin Spurs, the D-League affiliate of the San Antonio Spurs. He became part of Hornacek’s staff at the start of the season before getting the promotion.

Good luck, Earl Watson. This job promises to be really tough.
