The Hangover: Pistons Beat Warriors In Ben Wallace Night; Kings Stop Clippers’ Streak

This is the Hangover. We get basketball-wasted all the time. Yes, we recap the NBA every night in our own way.

We had a jersey retirement, a long win streak on the line, and probably way too many blowouts on a Saturday night. 8 GAMES.

THE GAMES

MILWAUKEE BUCKS 105 (18-25) @ CHARLOTTE HORNETS 92 (18-22)

The Hornets seemed to be enjoying being home as they got off to a double-digit lead in the first quarter. But the Bucks heated up right after that and the bees froze up. Milwaukee ended up shooting 54 percent at the end of the game while Khris Middleton continues to have an excellent scoring January.

BEHIND THE LINES
Greg Monroe (MIL): 19 pts, 10 rebs.
Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL): 14 pts, 11 rebs, 3 blks.
Khris Middleton (MIL): 24 pts.
Jeremy Lin (CHA): 15 pts, 3 stls.

BROOKLYN NETS 86 (11-30) @ ATLANTA HAWKS 114 (24-17)

At this point, unless the Nets are going against the Sixers or the Lakers, I’m not sure if they can win a game. So here are some puppies, Nets. I feel so bad for you guys.

BEHIND THE LINES
Paul Millsap (ATL): 21 pts, 6 rebs.
Thaddeus Young (BRK): 18 pts, 7 rebs.

BOSTON CELTICS 119 (22-19) @ WASHINGTON WIZARDS 117 (19-20)

Isaiah Thomas and John Wall both had huge games but it was Jae Crowder who ended up being the hero for this contest. He made a lay-up that broke a tie with three seconds left. The Wizards hurried back to the frontcourt but John Wall, who had finished with 36 points, wished he had 38 (or more) instead as he missed the lay-up that would’ve sent it to OT. That win by Boston snapped the Wizards’ four-game win streak.

BEHIND THE LINES
Jae Crowder (BOS): 22 pts, 8 rebs, 6 assts.
Isaiah Thomas (BOS): 32 pts, 5 assts.
John Wall (WAS): 36 pts, 7 rebs, 13 assts, 7 stls.
Marcin Gortat (WAS): 18 pts, 11 rebs.

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS 95 (37-4) @ DETROIT PISTONS 113 (22-18)

Maybe it’s the power of Ben Wallace (they retired his jersey at halftime and it is well-deserved; more on that tomorrow). But the Pistons had a huge second quarter (38-19) and never let up on the Warriors from there. Just like the 2004 Pistons, the 2016 Pistons surprised us by beating the favorites. Even if Stephen Curry had a dazzling game.

BEHIND THE LINES
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (DET): 20 pts, 5 rebs, 3 stls.
Reggie Jackson (DET): 20 pts, 8 assts.
Andre Drummond (DET): 14 pts, 21 rebs, 3 blks.
Stephen Curry (GS): 38 pts, 7 rebs, 5 assts.
Klay Thompson (GS): 24 pts, 6 rebs.
Shaun Livingston (GS): 10 pts, 10 rebs, 5 blks.

PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS 89 (18-25) @ PHILADELPHIA 76ERS 114 (5-37)

So the Blazers made short work of the Sixers as they shot the lights out… WAIT A MINUTE.

Um, here are some puppies, old home city.

BEHIND THE LINES
Nerlens Noel (PHI): 4 pts, 8 rebs, 4 blks, 4 stls.
Jahlil Okafor (PHI): 25 pts, 10 rebs.
Meyers Leonard (POR): 14 pts, 7 rebs.
Damian Lillard (POR): 14 pts (4/18 FG).

NEW YORK KNICKS 95 (20-22) @ MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES 103 (23-19)

There was still no Carmelo Anthony for the Knicks and they definitely needed him in the fourth quarter. The Knicks were within reach but the Grizzlies went on a 14-2 run that ended any hopes for NYC. Plus, Marc Gasol was unstoppable.

At least, Knicks coach Derek Fisher didn’t have to be in a steel cage match with Matt Barnes during that game.

BEHIND THE LINES
Marc Gasol (MEM): 37 pts, 8 rebs, 3 blks.
Langston Galloway (NY): 11 pts, 11 rebs, 5 assts.
Kristaps Porzingis (NY): 17 pts.

LOS ANGELES LAKERS 82 (9-33) @ UTAH JAZZ 109 (18-22)

Go, Lakers. I guess. Have some puppies, too.

BEHIND THE LINES
Rudy Gobert (UTA): 18 pts, 18 rebs, 5 blks.
Lou Williams (LAL): 20 pts.

SACRAMENTO KINGS 110 (17-23) @ LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS 103 (26-14)

The Clippers came into Saturday night with a 10-game win streak. Even without DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin, they figured this should be an easy win, right?

Nope. The Kings led from the second quarter and never relinquished their advantage. They did have one chance to tie it in the waning seconds but Paul Pierce, who is normally clutch in these situations, was unclutch in his game-tying three. The Kings come away with a somewhat surprising win.

BEHIND THE LINES
Rajon Rondo (SAC): 13 pts, 7 rebs, 10 assts.
DeMarcus Cousins (SAC): 19 pts, 13 rebs, 6 assts.
J.J. Redick (LAC): 22 pts.
Jamal Crawford (LAC): 20 pts.
Cole Aldrich (LAC): 19 pts, 10 rebs, 3 blks.
